One of the greatest myths perpetuated in American politics is that the Republican Party supports the military while the Democratic party abhors them.Repeatedly in the past few years, Republicans have voted against supporting veterans or voted against efforts to get troops on the ground proper equipment and retraining/resting time in between deployments. So, John McCain supports the troops and Obama doesn’t? Let’s look at the statistics, shall we?Iraq and Afganistan Veterans of America:John McCain: DBarack Obama: B+http://www.iava.org/full-ratings-listDisabled American Veterans:John McCain: 20%Barack Obama: 80%http://capwiz.com/dav/scorecard.xcVietnam Veterans of America:McCain’s Scorecard: http://capwiz.com/vva/e4/cinfo/?id=157301Obama’s Scorecard: http://capwiz.com/vva/e4/cinfo/?state=US&id=157311And how’s this for supporting the troops? The first bill Obama EVER sponsored in the Senate was caring for homeless veterans!http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=s109-1180http://obama.senate.gov/issues/veterans/CORRECTION: I mentioned in passing McCain being in the airforce, that was a mistake. McCain flew ground-attack aircraft from naval craft. Sorry for the mix up.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_McCain#Naval_training.2C_first_marriage.2C_and_Vietnam_assignment Author: TrueBlueCrusader |
